What’s New And What’s In Season:
Here we outline what is in season and highlight a few of our favourite products.
In Season
Daylight savings has finished and it always seems to herald the start of cold mornings and dark evenings when thoughts turn to warm, comfort food.
Best fruit and veg at this time of the year?
Baby carrots, firm yellow bananas, crunchy juicy apples, freshly dug potatoes.
Try King Edward potatoes - a great allrounder or Dutch Cream - a beautiful waxy potato with an even oval shape - easy to peel!
Artisan Breads
There is nothing more homely and simple than freshly baked loaves of bread. We have our favourite bakeries that we source bread from each week. They are:
- Beaconsfield Bakery (home of the famous woodfired Garwood family breads)
- Le Fournil (the French bakery as we call them - fantastic sourdoughs, ciabatta and olive breads)
- Leavenbank (a bakery based in St Helens, using organic flours and a woodfired oven)
- Sky Ranch Bakery ( a local baker, specialising in Gluten Free loaves)
We have freshly baked bread delivered daily with varieties to suit any occasion. Call in to see our range or phone us to reserve your favourite loaf.
Our favourites? Well they are all good, but if we are pushed for a decision we like the Beaconsfield Tin loaves, the French Ciabatta and Sourdoughs, the Leavenbank Green Olive & Thyme and the Fruit & Nut loaves.
New to the Grocer on Fridays and Saturdays is the Beaconsfield Cheese & Bacon loaf and on Saturdays we are now stocking French Bakery Croissants: plain, chocolate and almond. Be quick! They sell out early...
